Generally Cakes n Ladders is closed every Monday and Tuesday, with one recurring exception to speak of. On the first Tuesday of each month we open up in the evening specially for an ongoing event called Total Party Kill (TPK) Tuesdays.
TPK Tuesdays are opportunities for lighthearted, low-commitment role playing. Have you heard of Dungeons and Dragons before, but never been quite sure what to make of it? Or maybe you love tabletop RPGs but just don’t have the time to commit to regular meet-ups for a large-scale campaign. Maybe you’ve got the time and want, but just can’t seem to wrangle up a group to play with. Or perhaps you’ve played and enjoyed such games plenty, but you want to take a stab at being the DM (Dungeon Master) and running a game for the first time.
If any of these sound like you, the TPK Tuesday is the place to be. Each session is set up to be a one-off story that does not require ongoing attendance or knowledge of the game. The DM for the evening will introduce the world, let the players pick their character from a handful of presets (usually with room for adding some personal flavour), set the stage, and send the adventurers on their way. And it won’t always be D&D! TPK Tuesdays are great opportunities to trial other tabletop RPGs and systems. If there’s one in particular that you’d like to have a go with, send us a message and let us know! We’re happy to accommodate. Likewise if you are interested in DMing a TPK one-shot, we’d love to go on your adventure with you.
Examples of some past TPKs include, but are not limited to:
Whatever the scenario, it’s always a fun time. Just don’t be surprised if your party gets overwhelmed and overtaken – it IS called Total Party Kill, after all!
TPK Tuesdays are normally the first Tuesday of each month (there may be some exceptions), from 6:30 PM until the adventure ends; generally between 9:00 and 10:00 PM. Doors open at 5:30 PM, and it costs the same as normal game time – $3.00 per person per hour. We usually have an event page active for the next upcoming TPK soon after the most recent session, so be sure to keep an eye on our social for specific information regarding each monthly outing!
Note: Our next TPK Tuesday will be the second Tuesday in March, due to us hosting the Auckland Fringe Festival show, “Can I Get an Underground Location and a Mythical Creature?” on the first Monday and Tuesday of the month.
We can’t wait for you to join our party!
